Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position, or proportion of the ear. It can correct a defect in the ear structure that is present at birth or that becomes apparent with development. This procedure can also treat misshapen ears caused by injury. By addressing the size, shape, and proportions of the ears, otoplasty can have a profound effect on the patient’s self-esteem.
Who is a good candidate?
- Non-smokers
- Individuals in generally good health without conditions that impair wound healing
- Individuals with realistic goals and expectations
Downtime
5-7 days of surgical downtime and up to 14 days of social downtime.
Recovery
Bandages and dressing will be placed during surgery and will be removed by Dr. Jacobson at your postoperative follow-up. It is essential that bandages remain intact and are not removed by you for any reason. Failure to do so may result in loss of some of the correction and may require a secondary surgery. Ear reshaping patients can expect 1 week of lifting restrictions.
